In 1977 (yes, 35 years ago), Taste of Texas restaurant opened the doors of their first location on the west side of Houston. Over the next three decades, the restaurant grew popular nationwide and built up a fanbase across all 50 states. “We would often get requests from customers all over the US to ship our items to them,” says Lisa Blackard, the Executive Chef.
In 2005, these requests became too frequent to ignore and the owner’s son Edd Hendee (a recent business school graduate), started exploring the idea of launching an online store. The idea proved to be successful because when they did launch their webstore during the holiday season of that year, they made over $100K in sales the first month alone!
