USPS holiday shipping surcharges for 2025 are officially here and if you’re in eCommerce, this is your heads-up to plan ahead. These temporary rate increases will impact Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, and Priority Mail Express shipments from October 5 through January 18.
So while you’re finalizing Q4 promos, stocking up on tape, and begging your team to stop printing duplicate labels, make sure you’re also factoring in these peak-season price bumps.
Here’s everything you need to know to get ahead of it.
The Bad News: Holiday Surcharges Are Back
Every year, USPS raises rates during the holiday season to handle peak demand. More packages mean more trucks, more scans, more overtime and a temporary price increase to help cover it all.
These surcharges are weight- and zone-based, which means the farther and heavier you ship, the harder your wallet gets hit. If you’re not baking this into your pricing strategy now, you’ll definitely feel it later.
Especially if you offer free shipping or bundled shipping discounts.
What These Temporary Surcharges Look Like
Here’s a breakdown of the 2025 USPS holiday surcharge increases, by service and weight range:

The Good News: You Can Actually Do Something
This is where proactive merchants shine. The key is to adapt early before these charges start draining profits or sparking support tickets.
Here’s how to stay ahead:
1. Adjust your free shipping thresholds.
Review your current settings and consider raising the minimum to offset the seasonal hike. Even a small increase (say, $5–10) can cover these temporary surcharges.
2. Rebuild your bundled pricing if needed.
If you’re offering “free shipping” or baked-in shipping deals, make sure they still make sense with these surcharges factored in.
3. Batch labels and print SCAN Forms.
USPS loves a well-organized manifest. You’ll speed up pickups and reduce delivery delays especially when mail volume spikes.
4. Use Ordoro’s Rate Calculator for live visibility.
Before you print a label, run it through our built-in rate calculator to see exactly what it will cost (including any seasonal surcharges). You can compare carriers, pick the most cost-effective option, and avoid nasty surprises after checkout.
5. Tell your customers what’s up.
Add a short message on your site or at checkout about seasonal shipping increases. Most shoppers understand it’s all about setting expectations.
TL;DR – The Sooner You Prep, The Smoother You Ship
From October 5 to January 18, USPS holiday shipping surcharges for 2025 will increase rates on almost every major domestic service. It’s not the end of the world, but it is something you should plan for now.
With the right strategy (and a little help from Ordoro), you can stay on top of your Q4 fulfillment game and ship with confidence. Even while prices spike.
